Postcard, never mailed but written on the back in pencil it reads, “I suppose you would remember Jock Elder the fisherman papa, he is now dead, this is him on his boat”.

I've seen this photo/postcard on several occasions, and every time I look at it I'm more of the opinion that this NOT a Cromarty fisherman, the 'dress' seems more akin to English south coast, or even Brittany? I can't recall a beret ever being worn at sea in this area, in general it was usually the soft black 'cheesecutter'.

What do other regulars to this site think?

I wasn't too sure about it myself Clem, figuring that postcard printers might happily produce a batch of the same cards, each with a different geographical title, but the message on the back would seem to give it more credibility. Comment left on 26 March 2005 at 11:07 by Garve Scott-Lodge
