Hello Nora - Where was the Queen Mary 2 or QM2 actually going to dock in the Cromarty Firth in 2005?

Please supply some background information as to the nature of her visit and how often does she cruise around this area?

I belive we have E-mailed each other in the past regarding the genealogy of the Patience and Reid families in the R&C areas of the Black Isle.

Congratulations with your QM2 winning Picture No. 1244 entitled: "Watchers on the rocks"; and I also enjoyed your Alexandra Norton Personal Album selection of photos as well.

I wish Avoch had a website like this too, even though I realize, and I am thankful that the AHA - Avoch Heritage Association - made a substantial contibution of representable photos to this project as well!!

Gerald Queen Mary 2 was berthed at the old Admirality pier in Invergordon. QM2 has only visited here once and QE2 twice so here, s hoping we get the new Queen Victoria when she is completed. We have a lot of liners visiting the Cromarty Firth and if you want a copy of this years list just log on to www.cfpa.co.uk Comment left on 30 March 2007 at 21:34 by Ronald Young
Ronald thank you for the info and link about Port of Invergordon and the Cromarty Firth area heavy industry and tourism as it provided a lot of info about my questions above.
It looks like the biggest cruise liner/ship/vessel provisionally scheduled to be visiting three times this year will be the "Grand Princess" owned by Mc&M listed at GT 108, 806 tons & Pax 2, 600 on Thursday 12 July (Maiden Call Est. Arv. 07:00 Est. Dpt. 19:00 hrs.) and Sunday 05 August (Est. Arv. 07:00 Est. Dpt. 19:00 hrs.) and Wednesday 29 August 2007 (Est. Arv. 07:00 Est. Dpt. 19:00 hrs.).
Good luck regarding a visit of the new cruise liner Queen Victoria some day in the future!!!
Best Regards from Gerald

Gerald Mc&M is actually the shipping agent who supplies stores and services for the ship whilst she is in Invergordon. Grand Princess is owned by Princess Cruises and was built by Fincantieri Monfalcone in Italy. Mc&M stands for Macgruther and Marshall. Comment left on 02 April 2007 at 20:33 by Ronald Young
Ronald thanks again for the extra info about the Grand Princess and the business of Mc&M - Macgruther and Marshall!!
When is the Queen Victoria scheduled to be launched by Cunard and was it delayed and who builds those large ships/liners these days if not in Scotland?

Queen Victoria was floated out of drydock in January of this year and is expected to make her maiden voyage on December 11th this year. She is 964.5 feet long 106 feet wide a draft of 25.9 feet and has a displacement of 90,000 tons, making her the 2nd heviest ship ever built in Cunards history. Queen Victoria, like Grand Princess was built in Fincantieri in Italy. Queen Mary 2 was built by Alstom Engineering at their Alstom Chantiers de l'atlantique ship yard in St Nazaire in western France. Hope that answers your Question Gerald. These two yards plus one in Finland are the ones who build most of the liners today. Comment left on 03 April 2007 at 23:46 by Ronald Young
Ronald, thank you for all the info about the ocean liners mentioned above last March and April!!
Nora, I am very sorry for mistaking you with Alexandra Norton (nee Watson) regarding my remarks above on 28 March 2007!!
I have linked these remarks to Alexandra at picture #1742 where I hope to get a
response from her.
Nora are you related to Alison, Alexandra, and Clem Watson or any other Watson's
mentioned in the library images as well, as I am a genealogy researcher interested in the Patience, More, Reid, Junor, Elder, Gow, MacIntosh or McIntosh and more recently the Jack families of the Black Isle and Avoch?
