Note the large radio mast in front of the Coastguard Station. Eric says this photo is 1946, but the Boat Club building is missing so it must be from before that. See a later view in picture #1889.

The coastguards used this mast as a gale warning indication, cone upward was a northerly direction gale, cone pointing down, southerly direction gale. Comment left on 11 June 2007 at 20:14 by Ian Jack
