There is a house sticking out onto the pavement in what is now Sydney House's gardens. On the right side of the street, there is a sign at the shop which is now the Emporium, which says "Postcards, Stationary and Fancy Goods".

Garve, A little more research on the date of this photo is necessary. The 'walled garden' next to where the Shoemaker's shop was was not there in 1940, nor was the 'crowstepped' projecting gable on the pavement immediately to westward. Navy Officer's uniforms should also be a guide, nearer to 1920's I'd say when Jeanny & Annie Mackenzie's Draper's Shop was on the go. Zoom to Pullar's of Perth agency dry cleaning sign.

picture #643 which was posted in 1913, and therefore is that date at the latest, shows what looks like the same cart standing in front of the cellar steps on the left. The officers' uniforms look WW1 or earlier to me.
