The boat was called Eilean Dubh, after the Kessock Ferry of the same name. She was a Chesford Sea Launch, built in Kingsbrige, South Devon powered by a Stuart Turner 4hp, single cylinder two stroke with a Segull outboard auxilliary. At the time we lived in Surrey and towed the boat up to Cromarty for the summer holiday, a journey which today takes 10 hours or so took two days, three days if we had a stop over in Perth with a fairly hairey ride up the single carriageway A9. As I recall the boat was up three years between 1963 and 1965.
