Crab Spider in greenhouse

Date Added: 15 June 2007 Contributor: Colin Dunn Year: 2007 Picture No: 1894

Strange spider found in our greenhouse. These haven't been seen further North than Banff before, so haven't the foggiest how it got here.

Wow, anyone know what it is? Comment left on 15 June 2007 at 15:53 by Anon
it's a "nursery web spider", I believe. Comment left on 15 June 2007 at 23:44 by Laura
It is a nursery web spider, click on this link for full details of habitat diet and reproduction. Sadly it is very common worldwide. Comment left on 17 June 2007 at 16:19 by Arthur Bird
It certainly looks similar to a Nursery Spider, but a spider specialist has now told us . . .

'This is a crab spider called Tibellus oblongus. It's not been recorded in Ross-shire (although I haven't checked if we found it last year); the most northerly record would be on the Banff coast a few miles east of Inverness.'
