Harbour View - c1960

A view of the harbour from the base of the lookout tower.

Comments:
Shows the lifeboat which came in 1958 so possibly 1960.

Shows the two cobles and the double ended motor boat the "Salmon". Geordie Morrison was in charge of it and I spent many an early summers morning - 4 or 5 o'clock rises!! - not bad for a young boy!
The other wee m/boat belonged to Willie Ross. It was built by Andersons in Stromness, and he sailed it down the coast by himself.

I think Willie Ross had the "Uproar", but can anyone recall the name of the boat on this side of the lifeboat? It belonged to Albert Watson.

Was it the "Endeavour" ? ...Clem Watson would know for sure ..But that name seems to ring a Bell ?

If im not mistaken Ron. It is Alberts Endurance.

This boat appears to have a forward wheelhouse and cabin which the Endeavour never had - I think that's the Enterprise lying at the steps.
After having another look I can see the Endeavour's stern showing up between the lifeboat and the pier.

Has this been addressed before? Who designed Cromarty harbour? When was it built? Who built it? Who paid for it to be built? Who decided it would be built? The harbour in this photo is similar to the old harbour at Buckpool, Buckie. That area is now part of a walking trail, but I remember a similar set of stone steps at the right.

Margaret, a visit to the history section of the Cromarty Harbour Trust website answers all your questions and a few you have not asked as well. Enjoy.

Thank you for the link, Arthur! I am looking forward to exploring the Cromarty Harbour Trust website when I move into a "temporary" apartment soon, while my house is being renovated.
Your videos are way cool!
I don't remember you from Cromarty visits, but perhaps we are from the same vintage?
