Loch Borralan, Altnacealgach, Sutherland, painted 1960? View looking East from chambered cairn promontory, South of A837 (Bonar Bridge to Lochinver road). Large white gable to left of tree clump is Altnacealgach Hotel (now destroyed), but a good pub remains.
This hotel, once famous among the Brown Trout fishing fraternity, was run by Donald & Chrissie (Couper) Matheson from 1952 till 1962. This loch is where their children, Iain & Ranald (Cromarty Boat Club members)and Susan (Ex CBC member), caught the boating bug, under the expert tuition of their father and hotel proprietor-Donald John Matheson.
I would be very interested to know the provenance of this painting, it seems very familiar.
