Colin,

at the risk of sounding a complete saddo, I think the photo is later, because of the postcard number. I found a couple of other Whiteholme cards with numbers close to this one - 4434W dated from 1970 and 6102W from 1979. So maybe the picture is late 70's? Is that a boat under a tarp to the left? Does anyone recognise the man and wee girl?

Willy Ross kept his boats there for many years, can't remember their names now. Comment left on 26 May 2008 at 09:32 by Ian Jack
Hi Ian "Uproar" and "Elf" i think were the names of Willies boats.. Comment left on 27 May 2008 at 01:05 by Ronald Young
You are right Ronald, thanks. I think the Elf was one of the Cromarty Firth class, is that right? Comment left on 27 May 2008 at 12:41 by Ian Jack
Not Sure but I'll ask Uncle Lachie. I'm sure he'll keep us right there. Comment left on 27 May 2008 at 23:03 by Ronald Young
Hi Ian. Lachie says that "ELF" and "PETUNIA" which was owned by Colonel Ross were Sisters and were both Cromarty Firth Class. He also said you of all people should have known that. Comment left on 30 May 2008 at 15:47 by Ronald Young

Hi Ronald, speaking about memory, ask Lachie if he remembers the time he capsized Brookies yacht and we were rescued by Willy Ross? Comment left on 31 May 2008 at 13:42 by Ian Jack
I'll ask him in the morning and give him some stick about it. Comment left on 31 May 2008 at 21:32 by Ronald Young
Hi, the man in the picture is Daniel Reid. He remembered the picture being taken: v. late 70s or even early 80s. The card was still on sale in 1987 and one sent to me is post-marked 8 sep 1987 Comment left on 01 June 2008 at 10:28 by Peter Bird
Thanks everyone. I've amended the date to 1978, which seems more likely. Comment left on 01 June 2008 at 11:31 by Colin Dunn
As my brother Peter has said above, the man is Dan Reid, our uncle. We have the same postcard, shortly after it was published. I think Sheila is right it is late 1970's possibly 1977/78. Unfortunately my father has noted the man is Dan, on the back of the card but no date when the picture was taken. He bought the card on a visit to Cromarty in March 1982.
