Looks like a Nissen hut, and the anchor wires to Radio Mast just to the right of the Tower, built on front of the wall of the lighthouse "compound". Any other pictures of these? Comment left on 30 May 2008 at 18:51 by Calum Davidson
Callum, the Nissen Hut was still there in 1964 along with other wartime building remains. Have a look at picture #1668, I can't see the mast in this picture, but as it is lifted from a cine shot I can have a look at the full shot sequence. Actually Garve has a copy of the disk in Plexus if you are passing you can see the whole sequence there. Good wishes. Comment left on 01 June 2008 at 11:17 by Arthur Bird
Thanks Arthur - I wonder when the Nissen Hut was taken down?

In 1965 I was a wee boy in Lerwick, Shetland, and my abiding memories are of playing in abandoned army camps, with the detritus of Nissen huts all around.

There were three Nissen Huts on that site just on the harbour side of the
lighthouse garden wall. The one in the corner was a repair shop for small
towing targets, and built about 1940/1. Prior to that, the area was a green grassy bank, with a row of 3 seats, backing on to the wall of lighthouse,
overlooking the pier. The basement of the look-out was used as a 'field hospital'/or 'first aid centre', bed on the left as you looked in from the road.
