Well Lane

Well Lane

Like many who were children in the 60s and 70s, I used this lane to and from school each day, passing the back of Mrs Bathie's ‘Old Schoolhouse' cottage and The Lodge (demolished in the 1970s). Sadly, like a lot of the little lanes in Fishertown which have been lost to access over the last 30 years, Well Lane is gradually filling up with sheds, hedges, washing lines and wee gates. It'll be a shame when it's no longer possible to use this to get from Oswald Lane to Forsyth Place.

Like Colin I too remember walking along Well Lane. This was in the late 50's and early 60's, playing 'hide and seek' in the Old Lodge (see picture #181) and running up and down the outside steps. I also remember driving along the Lane with my father as it was actually one of the streets of Cromarty. Comment left on 15 June 2009 at 21:43 by Jane Patience
Well Lane was where the house extensions are. The sheds are placed where the old houses lay that are no longer there. In fact you can see the old placement of the houses that don't exist in Jane's reference #181. So Colin, the sheds and washing lines have not covered Well lane at all! Well lane technically doesn't exist any more. Comment left on 04 May 2021 by Sasha Ross
