John McLeman at Rosehaugh - c1930

Date Added: 09 December 2009 Contributor: John McLennan ( McLeman ) Year: 2009 Picture No: 2549

This was taken at the Rosehaugh estate outside Avoch. My Great Granddad Donald McLeman is the one with the beard. My wife's name is Shobbrook and her a branch of her family worked at the estate. Does anyone recognise any of the people in the photograph.

I think this photo is earlier than 1930. The man sitting second from the right looks like William Mortimer Moir, who was head gardener from about 1892-1920. From later photos of him this must have been taken around 1900-1910. Comment left on 15 December 2009 at 11:27 by Estelle Quick
Yes Estelle I think it is earlier. Would you think this is all the staff at that time? My wife's relative was the coachman around that time. His son was killed in the 1914-18 war and his name is on the Avoch memorial. Do you have any photos that may show the coachman? Comment left on 17 December 2009 at 13:09 by John McLeman
John, I suggest you contact Avoch Heritage Association. They produced an excellent book about Rosehaugh a few years ago and have held exhibitions of photos etc. Their website is www.avoch.org and it has a contact form. Comment left on 18 December 2009 at 09:33 by Estelle Quick
We are keen to get an Avoch Image Library going - see www.theavocharchive.org. Feel free to submit photos, and if anyone would like to help with the administration, please let us know. Comment left on 18 December 2009 at 14:29 by Garve Scott-Lodge
