Hut Occasioned by the Raising of the School-leaving Age - from when it was raised to 16. Comment left on 14 April 2010 at 19:49 by Garve Scott-Lodge
I think it might be from when it was raised to 15 by the 1944 Education Act. It went to 16 in 1972. Is the hut 1940s/50s or 1970s? Comment left on 22 April 2010 at 12:48 by David Alston
The part the workers are on was the kitchen area and the section to the left was used for dining. Mr Rae screened the occasional film in it to help raise some school funds. Some good cooks made some memorable food for hungry bairns too. Probably built late 40's. Comment left on 23 April 2010 at 20:11 by DSM
The HORSA huts were demolished in 2011 I think - not long after the roofs were cleaned! I think they would have been built in 1947. It was April 1st that year that the leaving age was increased (as agreed in the 1945 Education Act). Comment left on 21 September 2013 at 15:53 by Sandy Thomson
