Cromarty High Street

Cromarty High Street

Date Added: 01 January 2003 Contributor: Andrew Bathie Year: 1900 Picture No: 265

Cromarty High Street at a guess sometime between 1890 and 1900. It seems strange these days not to see tarmac down. Why of all streets does this street seem so devoid of life when the back streets were so full?

I have to say I love Cromarty and enloy looking at all the old pictures, but this picture I could'nt work out who's the tiny woman in the middle of the road she looks a bit stange, and directly to the right of her you can clearly see a womans face. Is the Tiny woman you can see perhaps what was left of the FOUNTAIN which is shown in picture #312?? And yes I can see an image of a womans face in bottom right of picture too!!! Comment left on 30 March 2006 at 22:09 by Hazel Pendle (nee MACLEAN )
lookes like the fountain was firther back.
she seems a bit out of shape too there are other faces around her but not as clear as the woman.

Hazel is this photo creepy or not ? There appears to be two faces directly to the right of the lady, so if you are seeing one to the bottom right hand corner then that makes three.

I'd like a drop of what you ladies have been on. All I can see is a child and a smudge! Comment left on 31 March 2006 at 19:51 by Andrew Bathie

This picture has been "modified", hence the weird appearance. I can see the face too, but if you enlarge the photo, the blurred section seems to consist of a different pattern of pixels from the rest of the photo. The small "woman" might have been pushing something (faint outline of something curved in front of her). If you look at the pavement in front of the door beside "D.Rs" shop, there seems to be the outline of the corner of a rectangle. I think there might have been some sort of advert across the bottom of the picture which included the small woman, but they removed everything but her from the photo. Trouble is, if you look hard enough, you can see almost anything! My parents house/chemist's shop on the right was built 1891, so the photo is later than that.
