Ice by the harbour - 1st Feb 2012
This ice formed overnight. The temperature only got as low as around minus 6 degrees, but the sea was unusually calm. It doesn't taste salty at all.

Brrrrrr!! it looks pretty cold though we have only had up to -3 here in Manchester and THAT feels cold enough you're all hardy in Cromarty I've gone soft having been away for 42 years?

Last time I remember the sea freezing over by the harbour, was the winter of 62, Sue Florence might remember to, most of the kids were walking on it.

Perhaps it is less salty this winter because there's been so much rain so more fresh water has been coming off the hills. Scientific comment anybody?

I can't think of why you would want to taste that ice, unless the Royal has run out?? And don't anyone dare put it in a malt, I keep telling these english that we highlanders do not put anything in a good malt!!

Hi Tony, sure do we all went down to harbour at dinner time, and do you remember who was going to go to invergordon on a big slab of ice with much encouragement from the rest of us, until Mr Rae came down and rounded us all up and marched us back to school, oh happy days lol.

Hi Sue, yes Mr Rae was always a bit of a spoilsport. He was pretty good with the strap too, could've done with putting him on the ice. I hear you've been talking to Billy, don't be saying anything nice, remember I've a reputation to live down to, he knows anyway.
