I believe my mum used to work here in the 1950's, her name was Margaret McDonald. Comment left on 28 October 2012 at 22:52 by Doline Kilgour
Hi Doline. Yes, I remember your mum working there for a while. Seems a long time ago, looking back, and sadly no shop there any longer! Comment left on 08 November 2012 at 21:40 by Campbell Ross
Hi Campbell, It was a long time ago. Sadly mum died about 6 years ago, but she used to talk about her younger years working in the shop. I can still remember the smells when you walked into the shop - a sort of mixture of talcum powder and hot water bottles! Comment left on 09 November 2012 at 19:22 by Doline Kilgour
I remember the smells too, same as I remember the smells of Chapmans', Ledgie's etc. My granny Macdonald used to work in the shop when it was Johnstones' Chemist, a long time before. Comment left on 13 November 2012 at 00:33 by Dorothy Ewen (Robertson)

It wouldn't happen now in a Chemist's shop, but my Dad used to sell cigarettes, sometimes single ones as well as packets! I remember one local worthy (who shall remain nameless) coming to the house door at 2 o'clock in the morning, wanting to buy two Woodbines . . and getting them!!
