Photo taken by my father early 1970s. Can't remember the names, but I remember my mother got the sash ribbon and I hand-painted the wording on it...

Top left looks like Mary McEwan, bottom left like Shirley Johnstone. However, Mary and Shirley are only about a year different in age, so I must be wrong about one of them I think.

Looks like Mary it must have been about 1974 Shirley would have been 12 so it is probably her

I think the queen is Margaret Swanson also, Janie would have been 21 in 1974.

I think the kids are visitors who came from Glasgow every year to stay in Ben's present house in Bank St.

You are right Loren,I remember the little girl well.They came up here for years,they were from an orphanage in Glasgow. I think the same two ladies came with them every year. I wish I could remember, someone out there will?

The two ladies that brought the children on holiday to Cromarty each year were called Miss Chandler and Miss Stevenson, I always hear from Miss Chandler at Christmas she lets me know how the children that I played with are getting on. She lives in Johnstone Renfrew-shire.

I think this gala queen could be Hazel Maclean , if you check Avoch Heritage photos in 1970 Margaret Swanson's little attendants are different to the little ones in this photo also the little boy in Margaret's photo is wearing a kilt, I'm with Garve on the little girl I also think its Shirley Johnstone.

Hazel Macleans attendants were Kim Thomas and Kelly Lewis this is not Hazel,looks like Margaret Swanson to me.

Hi Caroline, if you go to picture #1524 you will see Margaret Swanson as Gala Queen, her attendants were Shona Mackay and Elaine Howse, the little ones were her young sister Shona and her cousin Claude Shepherd.
