This is the naming ceremony of the Cromarty Lifeboat "Lilla Marras,Douglas and Will"by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester on 25th August 1956. The Duchess can be seen by the podium. Comment left on 02 November 2014 at 22:13 by Alex Grant
This is much earlier than 1962/63. If you look at the video clip and the picture No.1668 my brother and I rowing a boat around the harbour, in the background the buildings and the harbour wall are in considerably better repair in this picture than they were in 1964 when we were rowing around the harbour..
I guess the buildings are WW2 so either during or immediately post war?

Clem you are the Lifeboat expert. Is this the commissioning of a new Lifeboat?

The buildings to which Arthur refers are the Nissan huts which was used to store recycling materials during the 40s and 50s mainly old newspapers and rags. Davy Jones and myself would have been in there many times (unofficially) searching the newspapers for pictures of famous footballers of the time. How the place never went up in flames I'll never know. Davy Jones will Know exactly what I mean !! Comment left on 07 November 2014 at 00:20 by Alex Grant
