Captain Backs Memorial

The inscription on the Memorial in St Michaels Churhyard in Maxstoke Coventry suggests that Captain Backs wife Violet was also killed when H.M.S.Natal sunk which does not appear to be mentioned in any of the posts relating to the disaster.

This is correct. Only the children survived, having been left at home ashore. Their son, another Eric, went on to have a distinguished naval career in WW2, and their daughter Diana only died last year aged 102. Comment left on 09 July 2017 at 23:17 by Sandy Thomson
