I feel it is such a shame that this church is now redundant. I feel the white washing lost some of its original charm! Comment left on 29 January 2005 at 22:25 by Colin Morrison
The Church is not redundant as such as there are still christenings, weddings funerals and special services. It is also under the auspices of the Scottish redundant churches and work should commence within the near future for internal and external repairs. It is open 7 days a week and is looked after by the excellent door man Willie Hogg. Comment left on 30 January 2005 at 21:02 by Sue
This is a beautiful old church which I love to go into when ever I am in Cromarty. I have some really good friends in Cromarty and love to go walks through the village - even my grandson Daryl loves Cromarty and always asks when he can go back up. My good friend is Ann Pickett and all her family (the Shepherds). My very best friend was Rena Swanson nee Sheperd now deceased and missed so much. Thanks to Rena, Cromarty is my favourite place. I remember visiting the East Church with my class in the early 1980s. The Rev Robert Galloway showed us round. It was fascinating. He was very involved in the history of the church and told us all about the 3 lofts, the pulpit, the windows etc. Comment left on 06 April 2006 at 23:43 by Rona Thomson (aka Miss Beaton)
Could anyone tell me who holds the church records for the east church? Comment left on 21 August 2006 at 14:05 by Alan Pike
Births, Deaths and Marriage records (pre 1855) are available through the General Register for Scotland Website. The originals - like all Scottish Parish Records - are in Edinburgh. Comment left on 23 August 2006 at 13:13 by Calum Davidson
I went to the East Church yesterday, and I found a picture frame with all the Urquharts in. If anyone has some information on the Urquharts plz can you get back to me. Comment left on 09 June 2008 at 14:00 by Anonymous
