These houses were part of a military camp in WW1.

I believe that these were officer's cottages during the war. Accommodation for the enlisted men was up at the (later) chicken farm, half way up the Sutor.

The houses on the links were part of the Newton Camp in WW1, another existed, occupied by a Mr & Mrs Macphail (he was a local roadman), until the late 1940's. and was sited 100 metres or so on the Newton side of the former Cromarty reservoir, on the same side of the road.
