Provost David R. Mackenzie was the first-cousin of my grandmother, Mary MacArthur (1895-1958). He was also the nephew of Murdo Mackenzie (1850-1939), who was born in nearby Edderton (by Tain) and emigrated to the USA in 1885 as one of many Scots who took part in the great cattle rearing industry in the Great Plains of North America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He managed extensive ranching operations and was known as “King Cattle”. He became a personal friend of President Teddy Roosevelt who he entertained in Brazil when he also operated a huge ranching operation there. Comment left on 29 December 2008 at 16:30 by Ian Harris
