The harbour - c1910
Two men and a dog can be seen sitting on a bench in front of the Royal. There are two lorries and a horse and cart on the harbour.

Although I supplied the box camera photo, I think the year is nearer c1930, 'cos my grandfather's old Ford lorry is backed up between the horse carts. The AILSA in the foreground was only with us after the early 1920's until c1938, when she was sold on to someone in the Orkneys.

Clem, in a similar picture (picture #682) you mention the harbour extension being added c1934. I was under the impression that it was extended in two phases, the first just before or during WW1 and the second (now collapsed) in readiness for WW2?

Andrew, That is correct, there was a WW2 extension to the west side built by Molem's.
I recall the steam hammer driving in the piles in preparation for the 3'-0''(.900m), conc.
decking. A tubular steel, half mile long jetty, off the beach at Neilston, had a pile driven concrete
