Aerial view of Cromarty from the west - 2001

I took this picture from a PLM Helicopter on the 12th January 2001, flying from Invergordon to Aberdeen and back to Inverness. You can see the legs a Jack Up in in the Nigg Dry Dock, the first time it had been used since the launch of the Elf Elgin Platform the previous July. picture #552 shows the platform being launched - the last major structure to be built at the Nigg Yard.

The legs that you are seeing are not of the Elgin Franklin Platform because the platform sailed out of the yard July 2000. The platform shown is the Global Santa Fe Magellan Jack-up. It was in the yard for some I.R.M work. Comment left on 03 July 2005 at 17:40 by Duncan Dingwall
