According to an 1896 obituary, my 4th great-grandfather, David Ross, was born in the same room as Hugh Miller in Cromarty, Scotland. I would venture to guess this is the Miller House :). I was wondering if by chance you might know if anyone at the Miller cottage knew anything about David Ross or if perhaps there was a Ross family that was friends with the Miller family or worked for them. David Ross was born about 1832. We do not have an exact date.

I would like to add to the commentary above. I am descended from the same David Ross who is mentioned in the comment above. I too have the obituary from the Kamlops Sentinel which mentions that he was born in the Hugh Miller cottage. I have been able to prove other items such as "he served in the Crimean War and that he fought in the battle of Sebastopol" were in fact correct. I also have been able to get copies of his seamans papers which list his exact birthdate as July 26, 1824. Given that the other part of his obituary was correct I have to assume the part about being born in Hugh Miller's cottage is also true.
