Preparing to launch the rafts out at Shoremills. The 3 mile race was watched by hundreds of locals and visitors to Cromarty.

Comments:
I think this was the year my father and a few other Hi-Fab worthies entered a raft made up like nessie but they didnt get too far and had to be towed back to Cromarty by Mac Florence.

The raft that Hamish built was the one second from right Think it was called the Byre Breakers as CB radios were all the rage at the time actually won this race it was constructed from wood and expanding foam. I remember it being built and Tom Tom Macintosh was the Cheif Engineer.

That raft had various names ?#1. The first year it was called Home Rule. This is the second year and Paul is right it was called the Byre Breakers on that occasion - picture #754 is a photo of Brian and myself doing the sign for it in the Bothy.
