The float-out year was 1982 not 83. I worked on its leg nodes and pile clusters in 3 Japanese shipyards in 1980 - there was so much work on this 40,000 tonne structure that much of the fabrication was subcontracted.

I was an apprentice for R.D.L. who built sections of the tubular structure and pile guides. I remember going up the insides of the 5ft diam tubes 4inches thick and fairing them with hydraulic jacks (4 10ft sections). Dirty work.
