The float-out year was 1982 not 83. I worked on its leg nodes and pile clusters in 3 Japanese shipyards in 1980 - there was so much work on this 40,000 tonne structure that much of the fabrication was subcontracted. Comment left on 12 February 2008 at 12:58 by Phil Cooper
I was an apprentice for R.D.L. who built sections of the tubular structure and pile guides. I remember going up the insides of the 5ft diam tubes 4inches thick and fairing them with hydraulic jacks (4 10ft sections). Dirty work. Comment left on 17 November 2010 at 21:13 by Tony Loome
