I think this is a half-size replica of Captain Cook's 'Endeavour'. It also appeared in a documentary on BBC2 last year where a 'reality television' crew were given the opportunity to experience living in rather primitive conditions whilst sailing around the Pacific. If this is the Endeavour replica, then it was recently staioned at Whitby, where I saw it last October. Comment left on 30 April 2004 at 10:21 by Colin Dunn
In the background is J P KNIGHT'S tug the Kinross which was built in Japan in 1978. It was the first tug of its type in Europe. It's well known in the town for the noise it makes going up and down the firth.

I think it was a full size replica of "Endeavour" built in Australia. We forget that they sailed around in quite small vessels by modern standards. Also living conditions for the crew were not that much worse than being at home - and at least they were fed!! Comment left on 11 March 2005 at 12:32 by Dennis Manson
