The lady on the left is Miss Ross from Invergordon, and I can also see a Young from Rosefarm. Comment left on 22 July 2004 at 10:15 by Margaret Urquhart
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the flag is in the background? Is it some earlier version of the current Union Jack?

I'm getting married in October, and I wonder if our photos will be as fascinating as this in 80 years' time?!

It looks like it must be the Red Ensign or 'Red Duster', which has been the flag of the British Merchant fleet since 1864. It's a Union Flag in the top left quarter, on a red background. Comment left on 23 July 2004 at 15:13 by Garve Scott-Lodge
Margaret are we related? I am related back to James Urquhart & Ann Ferguson born about 1766. Their daughter Christian Urquhart married Donald Bain, they lived and died at Rosefarm and brought up their family there. Comment left on 15 February 2005 at 10:43 by George Hamilton
My late Uncle was Angus Uquhart Ross born at Invergordon. His parents were John Ross from Invergordon and Florence Hetty. John Ross' parents were John Ross born 1848 and I think Margaret Urquhart who was born in 1864. Their parents were Peter Ross and Catherine Thomson, and Alex Urquhart and Ann Smith. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone?
Regards Pat

Margaret, Alice Urquhart here. I was looking at the Taylors Wedding. I presume that the boy at the extreme left is Edwin. Is that Magnus next to him?
Is that you on the front left with your Mum. Is Rhoda behind the boys. I will phone you soon.

These familiar names in such a small area around Cromarty, my late grandmother Elizabeth MacDonald (nee Urquhart)1870-1922 who lived at The Mains, Cromarty, originally from Jemmimaville, her parents William Urquhart and Alexandrina Munro of Jemmimaville.
Also my late mother, Ina Taylor(nee MacDonald)1897-1986 lived at The Mains Cromarty and later at 5 Duke Street. Does anyone know if there any connections to those in the wedding photograph?

Jean, My great grandparents were William Urquhart and Alexandrina Munro, perhaps you would like to contact me to exchange information. Comment left on 02 October 2007 at 08:13 by George Hamilton
Well George, the information you sent me has certainly shown that we are related and in the sixth generation of the Urquhart-Munro "Dynasty". No doubt there are other relatives in the Cromarty/Jemimaville area yet to be found, many, many thanks for access to your detailed records. Comment left on 02 October 2007 at 22:32 by Jean Bell

Hello Flora, This is the wedding photo of my Grandparents David and Louisa (Lila) Taylor. I don't know who the Young from Rosefarm is in the pic. I think it may be one of the ladies. Margaret Urquhart may know. I remember being taken to Rosefarm by my Grandmother for tea and playing in a barn. I remember the name Jessie Ann - was there a sister? My Grandfather was in the Royal Artillery in WW1 and I have photos of Sandy and I think his brother in uniform, also Royal artillery. I think a lot of the Cromarty boys joined up together. I lived at Rosefarm from 1953-64. Jack Young was grieve at Rosefarm at that time and lived with his brother Jim (who also worked on Rosefarm) and two sisters Jessie Ann and Greta. Remember visiting them in 1968 - by that time they had moved to Cromarty to a house opposite the old dairy (Rose Cottage??). Also remember some of their nieces coming to stay at Rosefarm in the summer holidays. Comment left on 13 January 2009 at 16:02 by Anonymous
Hi Flora. I think Greta was the other sister I remember. I shall look out the pics and see if they can be put on the Cromarty website. Catherine. Comment left on 14 January 2009 at 13:32 by Catherine Penman. nee Hossack
Yes, I forgot about Greta I couldn't remember her name. Yes, they moved to Roseville in Cromarty opposite the old dairy and always had a fantastic show of roses in their front garden. The nieces would have been my aunt Julie and the "three white mice" as Bright Gordon calls them these girls I saw for the first time at Jessie Ann's funeral. I'm not very sure of their names. Would be nice to know who you are so as I can speak to my dad to see if he remembers you. I myself worked at Rosefarm as my oldest son William did too. Look forward to finding out more info .... Hi Catherine, I spoke to dad and showed him the picture but he wasn't sure who the Young was though he thought it might be his dad. The Youngs were as follows - the girls were Liz, Jean, Greta and Jessie Ann, the boys were Donald, Alexander Bill, Jack, Jim and Ken. Those that married were Jean, Alexander (my granda also called Sandy or Alex) Bill and Ken.
Alexander's family were Willie (sadly passed away in November) my dad George and Julie-Ann. Bill's family were Derek, Malcolm and a daughter (can't remember her name at present).
Ken had 3 daughters whilst Jean had no family.
Granda was in the Royal Artillery on the big guns, Dad said, so I got that right. Look forward to seeing more photos ....
