Children swimming in the Harbour - c1930??

Date Added: 01 January 2003 Contributor: Unknown Year: 1930 Picture No: 85

Makeshift slide being used by local children swimming round the back of the harbour. Was this slide used for something else? The platform the children are sitting on is no longer there, as the slipway is uncovered now. When was it removed? Eric Malcolm says that it's his sister Isobel on the slide with Alison Standy on the slipway.

I remember Donald Macintosh catching a 4 foot conger eel there from the piles just there. More years ago than I care to remember. Comment left on 04 March 2004 by Patrick Swanson

I remember fishing there with some other boys at the steps oposite when a huge skate came to the surface and scared us all so much we bolted! I'm sure it was at least 6ft wide!! - no exageration!! - and flapping around on the surface Albert told us that there was a breeding area somewhere up by the Natal and by that time - late 50's - skate that size were rare.
