Harbour being dredged (with man in water)

Date Added: 09 August 2004 Contributor: David Newman Year: 2004 Picture No: 887

This was taken on 8th August when some of the final dredging work was taking place on the Harbour. You can see one of the dredging team in the water checking the new depth with a guage. They were just about at the right depth when I took this picture.

The man in the water is JOHN PORTIOUS of WALLACE STONE and PARTNER, the surveyor for the whole harbour project. It's thanks to his enthusiasm and keenness in his work that this project went ahead at all. Comment left on 12 August 2004 at 21:16 by Ronald Young
