League Flag at Victoria Park - 1955
The park used to be surrounded by a sandstone wall which council vandals ripped down in the '70s to replace with a chain-linked fence.
The seats around the flagpole were only one of a number of features at this end of the park which no longer exist. I can remember a large roundabout, little swings, a see-saw, big swings and a witch's hat - a conical structure which rotated around a high central pole.
If anyone has any pictures showing these please let us have a copy, or if you know the girl in the picture leave a comment.

Could this not have been 1958? The flag is flying at half mast. This could have been at the time of the death of my uncle, Kenny MacFarlane.

This looks like Eliz-ann from Bayview Crescent. Was her surname Frazer? Can`t think. She would have been 6 yrs here. I hear she has retired to Benidorm. Lucky thing!

Does anybody know of any site, other than Midas, Nevada, in the United States which still has an operational Witch's Hat or Roundabout?

I'm pretty sure they've all been removed for health and safety reasons, Dan - I've certainly never seen one any where else. I'd love to find a picture of the one in Cromarty, but failing that, do you have a picture of yours we can look at?

Dan emailed me a picture of the witch's hat in Midas Nevada
He says:-
"The witch's hat shown here at the Midas School is located in Elko County, Nevada, USA. Friends of Midas is an organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of this old mining town. We are very interested in knowing whether other witch's hat playground equipment still is in place and operational. This one was installed in 1936 and is still used a great deal."

Kenny Macfarlane died in 1959 so the dates are not correct.
