Does anyone remember the day when HM Customs & Excise burned thousands of cigarettes and tipped wine into the sand just beside the Highland Queen. I was handling shipping and The Highland Queen had refused to pay duty on their bonded stores, so Customs simply disposed of it. I was nearly lynched by the shift change coming out of Nigg and going back on board ship. Comment left on 14 March 2007 at 17:01 by Brian Robertson
Ooffff ... the memories ! ... I was living on the Black Isle then (and working at Nigg) ... I well remember Albert - the boat skipper - what a consummate seaman he was !!! Comment left on 16 December 2008 at 20:06 by J. Derek Riddell
