A young Kirsty about a third of the way up the wooden pole. This was used by the local coastguard to practice rescue techniques using a Breeches Buoy. See also picture #275.

I remember when they cut this down due to it being 'unsafe' (1986?). The wood was so hard that it took ages for the power saw to cut through. When the stump was examined it was possible to see that only the outside inch or so was slightly rotten. The main part was as strong and resiny as the day it was sited.
