Woow I remember my mum sending me to the shop from the big house to get real cream clairs. That was when the MacEwans had the shop. Comment left on 05 December 2005 at 11:51 by Gary S.
Nice to see the Emporium, but does anyone remember the shoe shop ran by Mr Ledgerwood? The shop I think was DE Shoes. My mum worked there as a young girl. Comment left on 12 April 2006 at 22:10 by Anne Kidd
Hi Anne - picture #1590 shows DE Shoe Services across the road from the Emporium. As a 7 or 8 year old in the late 60s I remember being sent to pick shoes up from Mr Ligertwood, (though it was pronounced Ledgerwood) from his workshop which at that time was at Miller House beside the Courthouse. I remember the corridor ran through from the front door to the back of the house, and just outside the back door was his wooden workshop.

picture #1054 shows Willie Ligertwood.

Thankyou Garve for photo of Ledgies shop, it did bring back memories, I was born in Cromarty ...at Allerton Farm, and always feel like its "home" somehow. Comment left on 13 April 2006 at 19:14 by Anne Kidd (NEE Wade)
