"Cromarty will accord a public funeral to her eight sons who lost their lives when their vessel, the salvage ship Disperser, foundered with all hands off the North-East Coast of Scotland."

I suppose it was wartime secrecy that required the press of that day to give such a vague location for the sinking. The wreck lies just north of Kirkwall harbour in Kirkwall Bay, Orkney (not Scapa Flow). Comment left on 02 September 2006 at 14:21 by Ronald Stewart
Ref. my post of 2/10/06, this information would now appear to be incorrect. Further research suggests the Disperser was salvaged and returned to service, finally being broken up in 1953. Comment left on 26 December 2017 at 17:34 by Anonymous
