I must look out the photo I had taken with Patsy in the field behind the West Church before Townlands Park was thought of. It used to be a camping site And there was a plot of land that used to belong to the late John Gillies if my memory serves me well.

Patsy started her career just after the war with Hughie Jack [Pat's Father] as milkman. I started as milkboy in Jan 1952 with John and then Bill Beattie. Some winters were very severe but the only time Patsy was beaten by the weather was the Great January Gale of 1953.

For many a year and many a day
the Townlands pony strolls her way
some bread to eat, a slice to get
in fair weather or in wet
the streets in town are not wide
she is up the middle in her stride
she holds up cars and town tractor
the air is filled with school kids laughter
once a week we pay our due
patsy impatient in the queue
alas the pony off in canter
watch the milkman running after
the only time we pay our money
the weekly ritual sure is funny.

Hello Ian
This certainly brings back memories of happy times in Cromarty. Patsy knew every twist and turn on the road and there was no way she would pass the bakery until Donald Matheson gave her two rolls. Yes Saturdays were special, pay day for Danny, and tips for me (your Mother always gave me a shilling and a bar of Highland Toffee). Further on Danny would call into the Arms for a cup of tea (it might not have been tea) and then as you say when we got to the Fountain Patsy would have had enough and went into top gear heading for home.
