The huge crane barge in the middle of the picture is the Micoperi 7000, (now known as the Saipem 7000), the largest in the world. Comment left on 07 July 2003 by Garve Scott-Lodge
A great picture, did'nt think the riggs had been in the firth that long - anyone know what year the riggs started to come in for repairs ? Comment left on 11 September 2003 by John Whyte
In the late seventies in between rigs being built a couple came in to the dry dock for repair. Saipem also have the largest drilling rig in the world know as Scarabeo10. Comment left on 13 September 2003 by Sue Florence
I don't know what year it was, but you can see that the tennis courts were still in fairly good repair! Comment left on 14 September 2003 by Jack Bain
The crane barge in the Firth is in fact the Mcdermott DB102! Comment left on 18 November 2003 by Garry Mackay
Garry is right the crane barge is te DB102. She's the one that lifted the Piper Alpha module. She is now renamed and owned by ELF. Comment left on 26 January 2004 by Ronald Young
I can remember the Micoperi 7000 being in the firth once, but I admit it must have been later than this. I was on it back in 1990 off the south coast of South Africa, and I saw it here after that. This picture must be before that - as Jackie points out the tennis courts are in good repair, and the new house on Shore St next to Catriona's cottage is not in this pic. The Micoperi 7000 was in here Garve but it was sitting on DP roughly where the SEDCO 706 is now. She was in to pick up 2 MONOPODS from Nigg. Comment left on 28 January 2004 by Ronald Young
The Micoperi 7000 can be seen on picture #640. Comment left on 29 January 2004 by Garve Scott-Lodge
The DB-102 is now called Thialf and owned by Heerema, not ELF. Comment left on 17 March 2006 at 20:30 by John
Regarding the crane barge ..it is actually the DB102 which was owned by J Ray McDermott..she is now owned by Heerema Marine Contractore and is now called Thialf and she is..and always has been the largest in the world ...not..the Macopri which is now the Siapem 7000.
