Lifting Tatties - c1955
We think this pic is taken at Rosefarm. Evelyn tells us that George Eastwood is in the middle of the back row. Any other names?

Before the war we used to get paid 6 bob a day. (6 shillings, or 30p in new money.)

Yes I remember, we got Tattie Holidays from School and my grandmother always made sure I got a job at the tatties. She maintained that if the holidays were for that purpose then that's what I had to do! Oh how I hated getting up at 6am and setting out to local farms and breaking your back lifting tatties all day but when pay day came it was magical - all backache forgotten.

Front row 3rd from right looks very like a friend of my fathers, Donnie Hossack. My dad would have been 18 in '55 so its possible.

Back row left is the late Jack Young, who was Grieve at Rosefarm for many years. His brother James Young usually drove the old CASE tractor, which went at a gentle pace, so as not to scatter the spuds
to far from the pickers. Is that Francis Fraser to George Eastwood's left? From memory George worked
as a driver for Francis' father, who was based at Cullicudden. Comment left on 10 December 2005 at 22:35 by Clem Watson

Is that my gran sat by the man with the dog? Alice Jenny Simm married Kenneth Cameron Shepherd. Sadly he has passed and she is near joining him now. She is at the Shoremill Home near cromarty.
