That's outside my house! Comment left on 26 June 2005 at 19:36 by Erin
My great great aunt Mary George lived with her husband William George and their five children at Laurel House, High Street, Cromarty at the time of the 1901 Scotland Census. William George's occupation is shown on the census as Inspector of the Poor and Collector of Rates. Does anyone know if the house shown in the background of where the Couper family are standing would be the same house that Mary and William George lived in? I'd also be grateful to know if any local people may have heard of the George family from times gone by. I believe the Georges later went to live at Invergordon. Many thanks Comment left on 06 April 2009 at 18:03 by Carol Chapman
Is this the lady who ran the Shore Inn ? Comment left on 07 April 2009 at 21:09 by Ann Hill
Anne Couper who ran the Shore Inn until 1903 was her mother in law, she left it to her daughter Isabella Barbara. The Shore Inn was closed under the Control of Alcohol act in 1914. Isabella Barbara never married and eventually lived with her sister in law, who is shown in the picture (also called Isabella Couper), in Denoon Villa and died in 1940. The lady pictured is my grandmother. Comment left on 09 April 2009 at 00:33 by Ross Couper
