Reay House, George Street - renovations

Date Added: 22 June 2004 Contributor: Colin Dunn Year: 2004 Picture No: 831

Jo and Lorna kindly allowed me in to photograph the rear of this substantial house. As you can see, major renovations are underway, and I'll be adding 'after' shots when the work is fininished - around 2009 I'd guess by the amount to be done ;)

See picture #2496 showing how it looks after renovation and development of veggie garden.

I can't believe what has been done to that house. My family owned it for generations and I for one miss it a lot. Me and my mother would love to see it finished though. Comment left on 03 December 2004 at 11:31 by Anon
Anon, there was an Orkney family Mackay, who owned this house for a considerable time and came regularly to Cromarty, in Summer, to stay. I think it was leased for a while to a former Town Clerk of Cromarty, a Mr. Campbell, his wife and family. More recently it was owned by the Ross family, who formerly stayed in Bank Street. Anon, it you ever revisit this site could you perhaps get in touch with me please? I think my forebears may have owned this place before your family, and I'm interested in its history. Comment left on 18 September 2009 at 07:50 by Margaret Mackisack
The turves on the left were kindly donated by the proud owners of this property and now contribute to the now very grassy area round the old "Flying Boat Tower" or Cromarty Boat Club's control tower, as it now is. I think they deserve a big thank you, don't you? The restoration of this property to such a high standard is a credit to them. Comment left on 03 October 2009 at 20:30 by Ranald Nicolson Matheson
