Girl Guides in the Factory - c1930??

Date Added: 27 October 2004 Contributor: Kirsty Robson Year: 1930 Picture No: 942

This is a fascinating picture for a couple of reasons. The names of three of the girls are written on the back - C Watson, M Gape and A Watson.

The location seems to be between two of the long factory buildings. The one on the right of the picture was knocked down many years ago and replaced with the council housing in Allen Square. Behind and to the left of the girls is the wall of Derek Matheson's garden, and over it can be seen 35 and 31 Bank St.

I think the girl first left front row is Violet Eastwood and the girl first right front row is Mary Eastwood.
I may be wrong as i am only going by other family photos.

In the address book of my late sister Emily Taylor the name Margaret Gape living at 6 Duke Street Cromarty appears. It is likely that it is the M Gape whose name is written on the back of this picture, can any one confirm this is correct? Comment left on 12 September 2007 at 19:45 by Jean Bell(nee taylor
Annie Watson was my great aunt and life long friend to Maggie Gape, and i would think it is Billy Watson's (Big Vennel) Mother? Comment left on 01 November 2009 at 17:38 by Annon
I think the girl second from the right in the back row is my aunt, Nancy Macdonald, daughter of Sergeant John Macdonald, Ross-shire Constabulary, who was stationed in Cromarty at that time Comment left on 18 March 2015 at 18:34 by Jacquie Tosh
