James Methuen Couper the owner of the shop with three of his daughters - Rhona, Chrissie and Annie.
He was my Grandfather and James Hall's Great grandfather.

You can see a picture of James Couper's wife, Isabella Mackenzie, in the photo of school teachers from 1910 - picture #21. She's 2nd from the left at the back.
James and Isabella were my great-grandparents, my Granny Helen was the youngest sister of the girls in this photo.

Would James M Couper may have been a step-brother of Captain Joseph Couper, son of William Couper, fishcurer. William Couper was married twice, both wives were named Ann Mackenzie and both came from Stornoway. Joseph's mother died in 1860 and his father remarried a year or so later. Jospeh became a master mariner, spending a lot of time in India. For a brief time in the late 1890s he was Collector of Dues at Stornoway Harbour which is how I discovered his roots while researching the history of the Harbour Commission there.
