The house visible on the left is Frithview, which was listed at the time, along with the Cliff and Douglas Matheson's house. The coastguard houses weren't so lucky - their railings were taken down to help the war effort in WWII. Comment left on 29 September 2003 by Clem Watson
I found this. That's brilliant. Alexander was my great great grandfather. I think that's right - his daughter Annie became Annie Taylor and her daughter Rita Watts nee Taylor is my grandma. Comment left on 05 November 2009 at 03:38 by Paul Watts
Does anyone know when and where Alexander "Puffer" Finlayson passed on? Comment left on 06 November 2009 at 23:13 by James Barr - Buffalo, New York
Hi James. I've just started researching my husband's family tree. Puffer was his great great granda as Jean Shepherd (Finlayson) is his mum. Have you found any more out about the Finlaysons since November? I've posted a message on another photo asking whether Puffer and Eppy could be Alexander F and Elsie Hogg. Any thoughts? Alexander Finlayson ( Puffer ) was my great granda
His son John, My Granda, who I am called after had 3 sons one being my dad Gordon. He had 4 sons. Myself, Barry, Alicky and Bobby who drowned in an accident. I have a daughter, but Barry and Alicky have sons and as far as I know they are the only ones to carry the Finlayson name forward. I may of course be wrong and would welcome any comments.

Ian, do you know when Puffer and Eppy passed, and if so where they are buried? Comment left on 26 August 2010 at 23:21 by James Barr
James, I would assume it will be in the old cemetary above the town. I will ask my cousin Margaret if she has any idea. She has done a lot of work on the family history. Comment left on 30 August 2010 at 10:51 by Ian Finlayson
I scoured the old cemetery and could not find anything, but there maybe wasn't a headstone, I think I read every stone there. Comment left on 30 August 2010 at 19:19 by Meg Austin ( Finlayson )
Hi to the Finlayson clan. I've just come across a connection but not sure whether or not you're the same Finlayson. Mine was Ann Finlayson married to a John Hogg (Weaver). No other information at the moment - extracted information from their daughter's death certificate in 1859 aged 65 - she was born 1793 but don't know if this was their first, middle, last etc child. Any suggestions? Comment left on 09 September 2010 at 15:34 by Mrs Ronni Norris
Puffer was married to Eppie Hogg, I think Puffer just had a brother, no sisters. Comment left on 09 September 2010 at 19:12 by Meg Austin ( Finlayson )
I have a few more to add to the siblings of Puffer. He had 5 brothers (1 died in infancy) and 4 sisters. Comment left on 16 September 2010 at 21:50 by Andrew Bathie
To Meg Austin - In reference to your Eppie Hogg - I know that there were a number of Hoggs in Cromarty - my reference to Hogg comes from Mary Hogg born 1793 in Cromarty and married 27 Jan 1809 to Hugh Reid (fisher of Avoch). She died 6 Oct 1859. Think Mary's father was possibly a John Hogg (weaver) married to Ann Finlayson who died 20 June 1852. Was Ann Finlayson a sibling of one of your Finlaysons?
