Someone told me that waste from the smelter was taken out by barge to be dumped in the Moray Firth (as if that was a good idea) but that they used to start dropping it before they got out through the Sutors and that this had destroyed the fishing. THAT IS CORRECT, I WAS AT THE SALMON FISHING THAT YEAR DOWN THE COAST AT TARREL FOR MY UNCLE WILLIE PATERSON. I STAYED DOWN AT THE BOTHY EVERY MORNING AROUND 4 THE BARGE WOULD DO A U TURN OF ROCKFIELD AND HEAD BACK. THEY DUMPED OUT ON THAT BANK FOR A LONG TIME. Hi Charlie. Nothing at all. Maybe you don't know, but on the net messages typed all in capitals are seen as shouting, hence my joke. Comment left on 22 November 2010 at 09:27 by Colin
This is a picture of my late brother Brian.
I had a conversation a few years back with the skipper of the smelter boat (aka the honey cart) and he assured me that they never dumped inside the Souters.
